Herbal
Medicine
Herbalism
has been the primary form of medicine throughout most of human history,
and even today most pharmaceutical drugs are derived from plants.
The
pharmaceutical companies isolate what they believe to be the 'active
principle' in a plant, which they then patent as an inert drug.
Herbalists, by contrast, use the whole plant, with its range of
live healing elements, and treatment is much less likely to cause
side effects than the isolated chemicals of conventional drugs.
Herbs
are used to restore the whole person to a state of balance, health
and equilibrium. Everybody as a unique constitution, and treatment
is individually tailored to work towards uncovering the root cause
of a problem, not just its symptoms.
Herbs
are mainly administered as teas or tinctures. Sometimes they will
be given in capsule form or applied externally. Herbal medicine
can treat almost anything you might go to your GP for. Herbs and
natural healing methods are particularly useful for chronic problems,
and can sometimes help conditions that have no cure in conventional
medicine.
